Enter the Dragon, a Caricature Tribute to Bruce Lee

I wanted to make something badass for the next up coming conventions, one of the good things about winter time and having so many conventions happening within comparatively short gaps from each other, you find yourself cranking out new stuff and not having to worry too much about heading outside. This one I used the Colour Half Tone to get the speckled comic book print look vaguely similar to Roy Lichtenstein.

Not to put too finer point on it but I'm somewhat prolific, and no this isn't me blowing my own trumpet here just saying that in the high energy of a gig the flow of the park and the other stuff I draw there are some that simply never get the attention they deserve.

I taught myself how to draw "old school" which is on paper and with a pencil, I do have an ipad convenient though it is can not quite match the feel and texture of traditional drawing. That being said some of the pieces I do for practice, to emulate a style I admire or just for me don't make it on top the blog much less online at all mostly because I run out of time- think of it like:

For starters if you've been following my posts, at least the ones from last year you'd have noticed my Pin Up drawings- and you've also probably noticed the lack of the girly drawings in the closing months of 2012. So I dug around in my collection of originals and found some sketches.

Ahhh Real Monsters!

Krumm, Oblina and Ickis

I grew up watching "Ahhh Real Monsters" a nineties Nicktoon from Nickelodeon- (I love alliteration). Though I was not the biggest fan of the art direction at the time there was something fresh and very cool about the stories were fantastic to say the least. The character design, at least of the monsters themselves was pretty original as they possessed the simple abstract naivety of a child's drawing with the richness of the environment they dwell in. It was weird, but then again, the nineties were weird.

This one is part of a tribute not only to mass transit, I take the train a lot but as a tribute to one of my favourite MAD magazine artists of all time Sergio Aragones I discovered as a kid as his cartoons were not only the first things in that magazine I found funny, but how he effortlessly told a story using only drawing.
