First Convention of 2021: Back to the old Drawing Board

It was a decent hiatus, but it's even better to be back. My bookings are all ready to go and I'm going to be drawing live again for events at upcoming dates and locations around the country.

Pacific Rim. To say this movie has it all and is a fine example of a  watchable game, as opposed to a playable movie- which, let's face it, a huge array of video games are these days is an understatement. It's as if all those fan emails griping about how flawed movie adaptations of comic books, adventure games, saturday morning cartoons and other franchises was answered with a "Leave it with me, I'll make something you might actually like" reply.

The story is a basic one: Giant robots vs giant monsters. 

The message is a blunt one: "Be careful to the environment" 

The influences are as follows: 

The wicked fun of the 1998 Godzilla movie (which was and is fantastic in spite of critical panning)

Combining all the kitch of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers:

 with a whole lot of homage to Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty.

This movie is how giant robot verses giant monster movies should be done. The human characters aren't getting in the way or being shoehorned into a story that never really needed them they're integral.

Dr. Fate caricature

Dr. Fate, I recently got into watching all the episodes of JLU (Justice League Unlimited) and I was thoroughly impressed not just how well the characters of the DC universe were so lovingly well portrayed, but how vast the universe actually is. Dr Fate is a prime example of one of the more obscure characters given a real supporting cast role.

I highly recommend the animated series, although casual fans and new comers may be a little perplexed at the expanded cast at least one of the core 7 founding members of the JLA feature in every episode and the big 3 Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman are predominant.
